10 years later: Apple Vs. Dell

Michael Dell was famous for saying in 1997 “I’d shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders”, looks like the joke was on him. Apple’s market cap is more than double Dell’s now.
Thanks to the iPod halo effect and things like the iPhone and the apple TV, a Dell is looking to be something [...]

McDonalds goes after their main customer base: People with laptops.

McDonalds has announced that it’s freeing the in-store WiFi hotspots and giving the service away for free, probably to attract the same kind of people who sit in starbucks, sipping coffee, reading newspapers and checking their stock prices. Now, to me, this sounds like a bad idea. What could i know, but this sounds like [...]

IE7 drops WGA due to lack of interest

Microsoft dropped the WGA (windows genuine advantage) requirement for Internet Explorer 7 because the uptake on the browser has been so low, considering it is a critical update, not something that can just be ignored.
It’s probably because there’s another hoop to go through, or that Microsoft are so anal about people pirating their operating system. [...]

iPhone 1.1.1 gets hacked

A rough jailbreak of sorts has come about for the 1.1.1 firmware update on iPhone, luckily. Third party apps may make their way to the iPhones that are released in Europe on the 9th of November.
Third party apps aren’t working as of yet, because of added and changed frameworks inside the micro OS X architecture inside the update. The [...]

Vista hybrid HDD comes out, doesn’t work well with Vista

Seagate launched it’s first 5400rpm drive with 256MB of added flash, unfortunately, these drives don’t seem to improve the boot time of the laptops tested, reducing only from 40 to 32 seconds, nothing near what Microsoft was touting when they announced the feature at Vista’s launch.

Apple confirms ZFS for Leopard

Apple today announced that it would step up and use the ZFS file system and make it compatible with OS X as of Leopard. The good news is twofold here, it means OS X’s filesystem is no longer Apple only and open source and it also means that Time Machine may use ZFS to work, [...]

MSI: moshulu

Not the first time I’ve seen MSI live, but still the best. Mainly thanks to someone being there. Got in for free and had a lot of fun, needless to say, I ended up stinking of mine and other people’s sweat, but that’s all gone now, so It’s all good.

BT teaming with FON for wifi routers

Fon and BT are partnering together for a service most likely to involve BT’s current arsenal of WiFi hotspots and Fon’s ability to make money off people who want free WiFi at the hotspots. Sounds like a great plan, but what sounds really nice is the La Fonero router that Fon supplies. It’s perfect for DD-WRT.

Helvetica Shirt FTW

Just bought this shirt from DistrictLines Helvetica is pretty, i think that’s all that can be said, oh and I’m a font nerd. I guess I’ll just have that to add to the list of things I’m a nerd about.

Leopard set for the end of the month?

Apple seems ready to ship Leopard at the end of the month, as several sources have stated that there is only one final flaw in the developer build (unable to upgrade install on certain PPC chipped Macs). This should be fixed soon, so Apple may hit the “End of October” release date. Most blogs right [...]
