Yahoo says “Fuck You” to DRM: Finally.

DRM

Yahoo Music manager, Ian Rogers spoke out and stated quite the obvious “I’m here to tell you that I for one am no longer going to fall into this trap.” He continued with “If the licensing labels offer their content to Yahoo! (and) put more barriers in front of the users, I’m not interested.” That’s pretty much what needed to be said to the Music companies struggle to squeeze every last penny from every last customer, well, the ones who still stick to buying music (which in my experience is now the tiniest of minorities, not through people being unwilling to pay for content, but people just cannot be bothered with the DRM attached with most of the online stores.)

People need to step up against the record industry, some have, such as Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. Radiohead recently released their new album on a “pay what you think it’s worth” basis and Nine Inch Nails split with their label, Universal, to go it alone and try and get money through the more viral market they seem to have cracked.
