10.10Jaiku gets bought out, I’m still sticking to Twitter
So, i got the email today, saying that Jaiku was “joining” google. By joining I really mean “being swallowed” Still, this doesn’t sound much like the online “presence” company is doing anything of substance with them yet. Twitter still gets me, easier to understand and far less directed solely for profit.
Plans between the two companies seem to be very different, Twitter on one hand seems to go down the route of a desktop or web API and a website that’s just another client for it’s service whereas Jaiku’s website is pretty much the only way to post directly to it, as well as adding in RSS feeds, but that’s just aggregation. Jaiku doesn’t have nearly the same reach, at least with the sect that Twitter has pretty much converted to the micro-blog architecture.
Comments directly distinguish between the two competitors, Twitter’s clean, unobtrusive interface and structure is favored more by people who get what the API is about and Jaiku’s main user base seems to be a lot of people talking in the discussions on some other people’s posts.
I’ve never got the full point in Jaiku and probably won’t for a good long time, seeing as Pownce is now their main competitor, not Twitter. Pownce seems to be the happy medium between the two forms of Microblogging and has been bled dry for profit since it’s beta.
